I was first elected to the City Council in 2008 and have served as Mayor for the last two years. I am a graduate of the University of Virginia, School of Law. I am a member of the Board of Directors for the Council of Government and serves on the Council's School Board/Council Liaison Group, the Economic Development Committee, and was the liaison to the Watershed Advisory Committee. I am a Board Member of the Winter Hill Community Association and live with my fiancée, Bernadette.
My legal career is focused on public service, and I am presently a senior attorney with management responsibilities at the Department of Homeland Security. At DHS, I have responsibility for immigration and national security issues. Recognized for my leadership and commitment to public service, I am a 1994 recipient of a Harry S. Truman Scholarship.
I am also an alumnus of Chapman University in Orange, California, where I earned a B.A. in Psychology and Legal Studies. I am fluent in speaking the Farsi language. I immigrated to the United States from Iran as a child with my family and grew up in the Los Angeles, California area.
I am committed to ensuring that the long-term interests of the City are served. I believe this can best be accomplished by sustaining our excellent schools, developing a balanced and dependable source of tax revenue, and advancing our infrastructure.
